Recycling – let’s sort it!

Recycling – let’s sort it!

Please help us to recycle more by ensuring you put the correct things into your blue-lidded bin – and properly disposing of things that can’t be recycled at home. See the full list of what can and can’t be recycled

Crews are continuing to check recycling bins, and will be rejecting heavily contaminated containers. They will also attach a red hanger that explains why the bin has not been emptied. In these cases, people will need to remove the contamination ready for their next scheduled collection.

If blue-lidded bins contain the wrong items, but these items can be removed easily, crews will attach an amber hanger to the bin. This hanger will advise people that their blue-lidded bin had the wrong items in it and what the items were – but it will still be emptied.

Some of the common items incorrectly placed in blue-lidded bins include:

  • Carrier bags and bin bags – put these in your general waste bin for energy recovery; or take them to a supermarket that collects plastic packaging. Please ensure all recycling is loose in your blue-lidded bin, not bagged.
  • Hard plastics, such as toys and plant pots – take these to a household recycling centre for recycling; or put them in your general waste bin for energy recovery.
  • Scrap metals – take these to a household recycling centre for recycling.
  • Nappies – put these in your general waste bin for energy recovery.

Spring Sheep/Lambs-Dogs

The lambing season can be a wonderful time of the year, but livestock worrying, which can be caused when dogs chase or attack sheep, can have serious effects on animals including stress, injury, abortion, and death

Sheep do not cope well with stressful situations and can even die from shock days after the event. It can also have a devastating impact on the owner of the animal with veterinary costs and seeing their animals suffer from the ordeal.

“If you live near land with livestock in it, ensure that you know where your dog is at all times and that your property is secure so your dog can’t escape at any time. It is the owner’s responsibility to keep their dog under control
