Planning application to build 9 dwellings on land at 6 Firs Road.

The Parish Council were notified today (31st October) that a planning application has been re-submitted for 9 dwellings on land at 6 Firs Road. The Parish Council held a public meeting back in September 2021 when the plans were originally submitted. The minutes for that meeting and the decision of the Parish Council are attached below.

The re-submitted application has been updated in the following areas:

Access Road improvements

Baseline habitats

Biodiversity metric

Ecological Appraisal

Masterplan

Nutrient budget

Proposed habitats

Woodland condition sheets

Revision to planning statement

The application is in outline for the erection of nine dwellings with all matters reserved except for access, layout and landscaping. As such, at this stage, there is only a layout plan of the houses proposed. A further application would be needed to cover those areas that are not reserved.

The Parish Council will discuss this application at our meeting on 2nd November @ 7.30pm at Winterslow Village Hall. The public are welcome to attend.

Parish Council notice of vacancy

The Parish Council has a vacant position.

An election to fill the vacancy will be held if TEN electors from the Parish of Firsdown write to the Returning Officer by 16 November 2023 asking for an election to be held. If an election is not requested by that date, then the vacancy must be filled by co-option as soon as practicable.

Play Area – new swings installed

The Parish Council have installed a new set of swings in the play area which includes a basket swing so that children of all mobilities can enjoy play.

The old set of swings were over 25 years old and no longer met current safety standards, the moving parts were also life expired.

Public meeting – Pitton Community Shop

There will be a public meeting at Pitton Village Hall on Wednesday 6th December at 7:30pm to discuss the latest plans for the Pitton Community Shop. All are welcome to attend.

Have your say on the future of bus services in Wiltshire

Wiltshire Council are asking you to have your say on the future of bus services and other public transport options.

Your comments will help to inform the council’s draft Public Transport Policy, which aims to support road-based public transport countywide to help achieve the council’s environmental, social, and economic goals, while also ensuring value for money public transport services.

The Public Transport Policy aims to:

  • Ensure that residents can access essential facilities and services using public transport, promoting a high quality of life for all.
  • Encourage residents to choose public transport for their daily journeys to and from work, reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions.
  • Provide reliable and convenient public transport options for visitors to Wiltshire, enabling them to explore the county’s attractions without relying on private cars.

The consultation ends at 23:59 on Friday 10 November.

Closures of the Salisbury – Exeter railway line due to engineering works

Network Rail are carrying out extensive engineering works on the railway line between Salisbury and Exeter. The line will be closed at these locations on the following dates:

  • Monday 6 to Friday 10 November – Yeovil Junction to Axminster
  • Saturday 24 November to Sunday 10 December – Salisbury to Yeovil Junction

There will be a number of further weekend closures:

  • Saturday 7, Sunday 8, Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 October: Axminster to Exeter St Davids
  • Sunday 29 October: Gillingham to Andover until mid-morning
  • Sunday 12 November: Andover to Woking
  • Saturday 18 November: Yeovil Junction to Salisbury

Polling Place and Polling Station Review – consultation

Wiltshire Council is carrying out its legal obligation of reviewing the polling districts, polling places and polling stations in the county, and you are encouraged to have your say.

Wiltshire Council is responsible for dividing its area into polling districts for the purpose of UK Parliamentary elections. The review will help determine that all of Wiltshire’s polling districts, places and stations are, as far as possible, suitable and accessible to all voters.

A consultation is now underway to get your views on the current polling facilities and electoral arrangements in the county and these will be considered before final recommendations are put forward to the Electoral Review Committee.

The consultation can be found at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/polling-review and will run until 31 October.
