The runners and riders are ready for the off on Saturday 10th May
Come and join us at the village hall on Saturday 10th May at 6:15pm for an exciting night at the races!
You can bet on the horses, win cash on the Tote or just watch the race while enjoying a cheese and pate supper with Pitton puddings and a raffle.
All funds raised go to the Pitton Community Shop project.
In advance, you can buy a horse and be its owner at £5 for each horse you buy So, if you would like to be a racehorse owner with your own named horse(s)and to collect a prize if your horse wins – please let me know by 1st May.
You could also sponsor a complete race for £20 with your company/clubname or any old name – just for fun.
For this you will receive a package of advertising:
– Your club/company name as a sponsor on the race card
– Your club/company name announced before and after your race
– Reminder emails to local residents will include the name of race sponsors
– A poster/advert/business card (of your design) left on each table on the evening
The bad news is that all eights races have now been sponsored.
The good news is that there are still spaces available to attend the event (at £9 each) and still horses left to be owned (at £5 each). Don’t forget that if your horse wins their race you will receive a prize.
I am welcoming early bookings so that we can organise numbers for the cheese and pate ploughman’s (and the renowned Pitton puddings) in good time.
So please get your name down as soon as you can to cheer on your horses in races that include:
Barclay & Phillips Architect Stakes
Five Rivers Fostering Derby
The Rib-Eye Stakes
The Clarendon Stakes
The Solstice Park Gold Cup
For Race Night tickets (£9 each) and further information.

The soft plastics recycling bin at Great Croft will be removed on Good Friday for approximately 10 days as the Parish Council are unable to resource the collection over the Easter period.
Residents can still recycle their soft plastics at supermarkets in Salisbury such as Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Tesco. The Parish Council will restart our scheme at the end of April.
The Wiltshire Council Town and Parish Annual Report for 2025 is available to download and read here.
For those residents who are unable to get to the public library in Salisbury, you maybe interested in using the mobile library service that visits Firsdown monthly for approximately 30 minutes on each visit. More details are available in the leaflet.
An update on the conservation area set up on the former Roundbarrow Farm between Firsdown and Pitton is available from the BBC News website.

Please be advised that the new Permissive Bridleway running through Roundbarrow Farm linking Pitton and Firsdown is due to be opened in May 2025.
It is not yet in use as there are grounds that need to recover from the extensive works undertaken to create the route.
Please be patient and refrain from use until further notice.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Parish councillors serve a 4 year term before elections are held for the seats. This occurs on 1st May 2025. Firsdown has 7 councillors, some are intending to stand in the elections, whilst a number are expected to stand down. This will provide an opportunity for new additions to the Parish Council. A successful Parish Council needs local people to contribute views and ideas on issues that are important to them. Firsdown Parish Council would like to better reflect the make-up of the community it serves, for example new arrivals to Firsdown, young families and women; new members from these groups would be particularly welcome.
