soft plastic wrong items

Dog excrement in soft plastic bin – scheme withdrawn

The soft plastic recycling scheme run by the Parish Council is withdrawn until further notice due to cross contamination by incorrect items which can be recycled via your Blue Top bin.

This is despite previous notices on our website.

Today, a bag of dog excrement was found in the bin.

The Parish Council is appalled that the actions of a minority ruin a scheme that benefits our environment.

wrong items

Soft plastic recycling bin – wrong items – please do not put these in the bin

The soft plastics recycling scheme that is run by the Parish Council is for plastic bags and plastic wrapping only. It is not for general hard plastics, many of which can be recycled via your blue top Wiltshire Council bin.

In the last few weeks the following items have been found in the soft plastics bin – on numerous occasions.

  • Old toothpaste tubes
  • Plastic fruit containers
  • Dirty yogurt pots
  • Plastic netting – such as used for oranges.

The first 3 items can go in your blue bin. Yogurt pots should be washed out. Unfortunately fruit netting cannot be recycled at present and should be placed in your household waste bin.

The Parish Council requests only soft plastics are placed in our bin.

Those areas within Firsdown that will be affected have already been delivered a letter by SSEN explaining what households should do in advance of the power switch off.

Internal audit and financial documents

Statute requires all town and parish councils to arrange for an independent internal audit examination of their accounting records and system of internal control and for the conclusions to be reported each year in the Annual Governance & Accountability Return (AGAR).

This report sets out the audit undertaken in relation to the 2024-25 financial year, which took place on 14th April 2025.

The Annual Accounting Statements for 2024/2025 are now available to view on the website – go here to view this information, and to learn more about your rights to inspect the accounts.

Please be aware that the Accounting Statements are unaudited, and the Accounting statements as published may be subject to change following their referral to PKF Littlejohn LLP, the FPC’s external auditors.

Any person interested has the right to inspect and make copies of AGAR, and the accounting records for the financial year to which it relates. For the year ending 31/04/25, these documents will be available on reasonable notice, between the period of 03/06/25 and 14/07/25.
