Attempted heating oil theft

There has been a recent attempted theft of heating oil from a tank of a property in Firs Road. It was thawrted by the alarm fitted to the tank.

With high oil prices, this type of theft is becoming more common, especially in rural areas such as Firsdown.

A few simple tips can keep your tank more secure:

• Fit a lock to the fill port of the tank.
• Fit security lighting near the tank. There are are a range of solar and battery powered lights that are movement triggered if there is no mains electricity supply nearby.
• Consider fitting an alarm to the tank.

These simple measures may well deter an opportune theft, but the Parish Council realises that they may well not stop a determined attempt by theives.
