Virgin Media
/in News /by firsdownpcContractors working on behalf of Virgin Media have started to install new infrastructure in Firsdown. The timetable of work is below. Work takes place in approximately 100 yard sections along the pavement on one side of the road, before continuing on the opposite side. Each 100-yard section takes approximately 3 days. Day 1 – diamond saw cutting of pavement surface, day 2 – excavation of a trench, duct install, and backfill, day 3 – reinstatement of tarmac surface.
Inevitably there will be dust and noise associated with these works. Access to driveways will be maintained with bridging plates across uncompleted work. Residents are asked to park their cars clear of the work sections by 0800 each morning.

Firsdown Defibrillator
/in News /by firsdownpcThe Parish Council have adopted telephone kiosk on Firs Rd from Openreach, and have funded the installation of a defibrillator provided by the Community Heartbeat Trust.
A defibrillator is used to support a patient in Cardiac Arrest with the aim of increasing their chances of survival.
You don’t need a be a paramedic to use the defibrillator – it can be used by anyone without the need for training.
The local ambulance service know of the location of the defibrillator in Firsdown.
In an emergency dial 999, if the emergency operator believes the patient is suffering from the symptoms of a cardiac arrest, they will provide the code to unlock the defibrillator, and provide instructions for its use.
Consultation on a Masterplan for The Maltings and Central Car Park, Salisbury

Notice of consultation on a masterplan for the redevelopment of The Maltings and Central Car Park, Salisbury
Wiltshire Council is consulting on a draft masterplan for The Maltings and Central Car Park, Salisbury, which is being prepared to guide the redevelopment of the site.
The Maltings and Central Car Park is allocated for redevelopment by the Wiltshire Core Strategy. The Wiltshire Core Strategy requires that the redevelopment will be led by a masterplan for the whole of the site, which will establish an agreed blueprint for the detailed phases of development that will follow.
In order to ensure that the public have a meaningful input into the production of the masterplan, Wiltshire Council are carrying out a public consultation on a draft masterplan that has been prepared.

The draft masterplan for The Maltings and Central Car Park and information on how to make comments will be published on Monday 15th April 2019 via the Wiltshire Council’s Consultation Portal.

Next steps and further information
All comments received during the consultation period will be taken into consideration before the masterplan is finalised and presented to the Council’s Strategic Planning Committee for endorsement.

Broadband
/in News /by firsdownpcOpenreach has now fully commissioned the 2nd broadband cabinet in the village. Residents who have not yet upgraded to an FTTC service (which is delivered over their telephone line), should contact their Internet Service Provider to order an FTTC service. Residents in Firs Close are able to order the superior FTTP service (a new fibre line is run to the property) and this type of service is also available to some properties on Firs Rd between Ilynton Ave and Firs Close.
Virgin Media
Contractors will start to install underground ducting for cabling for Virgin Media, from the end of June until mid-August. Works will be mostly in pavements but will include some road crossings and also verge work (i.e. Firs Rd). Underground chambers and equipment cabinets will also be constructed.

The library visits Firsdown every 28 days at two venues in Firsdown and every 14 days at Winterslow Village Hall.
Firsdown Great Croft: 1135 to 1150 and top post box Firs Road 1155 to 1210.
Winterslow: 1330 to 1615.
Firsdown residents may prefer to use Winterslow because of the extended hours.
Next visit to all three sites, Tuesday 2 April.
